Ada Lovelace – First Female Software Writer
Posted on 27. Mar, 2010 by charles in Careers, Life Stories, People, Women
Ada Lovelace was the daughter of Lord Byron, but made her own name in the world. Her mother provided a very strict upbringing, with a focus on education in mathematics. Ada had an aptitude for applications. When she met Charles Babbage, she realized how her skills could help the man who had designed the first computer. That all happened during the 1830′s in the UK. Why should we be interested in her today?
Her story is told in the book I have just published called Amazing Women
Ada set to work and wrote material to assist Babbage and also to translate material from Italian into English as she was also a very good linguist. The result was that Ada became the first woman to work on computers. This has been recognized in various ways. Ada was recognized via an international day of blogging – see http://findingada.com
The Ada Lovelace Day celebrates women’s innovations, particularly in technology areas. In the research that I am doing on amazing people Ada is a key character. She was way ahead of her time. Therefore, she qualifies as one of the people that I have included in my Amazing People Club.
