Amazing People of London
Posted on 03. Apr, 2010 by charles in Cities, London, People, Places
In the book, Amazing People of London, I trace the lives of key people and show what they did to make London the city that we know today.
If you wander around the streets of London, you will see many monuments to honour those who have made outstanding contributions. The audio is also available .
The same is true in other cities, where there are streets and stations named after celebrated people. As I have toured cities like London, New York, Paris and other places, I have asked why they were honoured and why?
In most cases, I found that they were amazing people. They left their mark on the city and its people and that is why they have been remembered. For example, Buckingham Palace in London is named after the Duke of Buckingham. In New York, the building called Rockefeller Tower is named after the entrepreneur who funded it. In Paris, the great Eiffel Tower is named after the Gustave Eiffel, the engineer and businessman, who led the team that built it.
The above photo is one of Trafalgar Square in London, named after the Battle of Trafalgar against the Spanish Fleet. John Nash, the great architect redesigned the Square, which is a major tourist attraction. But, who was he?
