Amazing Storms and Floods

I live in a place called Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia. Normally, it lives up to its name with about 300 days of sunshine each year. But, that is not the case so far this year. The Pacific Ocean has lots of water in it and a cyclonic storm has brought a lot of it ashore. The result is vast areas to the north of here are under water from Brisbane to Rockhampton and inland. People lost their lives in the raging torrents.
Now, a devastating cyclone called Yassy has raged in from the Pacific and smashed in to cities, towns and villages spreading over 1000 and more kilometresin its range. People have seen their houses and businesses go under water.
The amazing storms have for the time being confounded the best efforts of engineers and architects to protect the area with large dams ( now overflowing) and computer based flood plans ( which have been found wanting) However, the situation could have been worse without such efforts. It shows that however amazing our efforts are to manage the forces of nature that from time to time nature wins.
We now await for the flood to peak and the rain to stop. In the meantime, many people will have lost their homes and their jobs. Whatever help we can give them will be appreciated.
