Gutenberg and the Ipad – An Amazing Journey
Posted on 30. Jan, 2010 by charles in Inventors, People
As I watched the video of Steve Jobs launching the new Apple Ipad my mind turned to another great innovator – Johannes Gutenberg. He developed the first moveable type printer in Europe. Until he made the great breakthrough, about 1435, people had to write everything with quill and ink. Therefore, it made it difficult to have multiple copies of documents made for education.
You may think that Johannes would have become very rich. Not so, as he had to borrow money. When he could not repay it, his creditors took over his new wonder machine and they made money from it. It reminded me that Steve Jobs was thrown out of Apple, the company he founded, by the shareholders and directors when he was about 30 years of age.
The life of an innovator is not easy and always full of risk. As we look at the new Ipad it is important to remember that it could not have happened without Johannes Gutenberg. His printing press provided books for education to help children read and become educated.
What would Johannes say if he returned today? No doubt he would be amazed by the Ipods, Iphones and Ipad’s. The question is – what do you think will come next and will the Ipad survive as long as the printing press?

Apple’s in fashion innovation will eventually gain some steam after the first push time during it’s launch. The A4 chip and Apple’s potential to fix defections will start to make the iTablet a success in the time ahead.

lol a few of the remarks bloggers post are a bit spacey, every so often i really think whether these people really read the content articles and posts before placing a comment or whether they simply skim the article title and write the very first opinion that pops inside their mind. either way, it really is helpful to read sensible commentary every once in awhile in contrast to exactly the same, old opinion which i sometimes notice on the internet.
