What Makes You Happy?

Whenever we meet a friend or person in business, the first question we ask is, ‘How are you?’ Normally, people smile and say they are going well. Sometimes, people complain about the state of their health or, maybe, that their car has broken down. Within a short time, you can assess if the other person is happy or not. if you ask them what makes them happy what would they say? Would it be money, friends, family, possessions, holidays, hobbies, work or other things.
What do you think Shakespeare would have said about his life? How would Mozart have responded? What would Coco Chanel’s view have been? After all, you would think they had a lot to be happy about. Shakespeare was writing outstanding plays and poems. Mozart was composing masterpieces. Coco Chanel was developing a successful business.
My research into amazing people shows that they had the same concerns as the rest of us. They worried about their health, where they lived, their relationships and the state of their finances. Mozart, for example, wrote many letters which have been published. They outline the ups and downs of every day living, expecially his concerns about his money, his in laws, his health and that of his family.
However, one thing that shines through is that most amazing people did not complain much about the work they did. Meeting deadlines could be a problem, but they seem to have enjoyed their work. They spent long hours doing it. They gained a sense of achievement and well being on completing projects. Indeed, it was their work that carried them through each day. It gave them a sense of happiness.
Few worked specifically for money, fame and glory. That came as a result of their efforts. Most worked for the sense of satisfaction in converting their ideas into action.
Therefore, consider what makes you happy. Discover what hobby or work that you enjoy and develop a plan for advancing it. Meet with others who enjoy similar activity and no doubt your conversation will be full of fun with stories and smiles at what goes right or wrong and how to improve it.
So, what makes you happy?
