Marie Curie – An Amazing Woman

How much of your time is put to good use and how much is wasted? What can you do to make the best of your time?I find it interesting to see how people use their time. In my search for amazing people,  I have found a number of people who have triumphed over adversity and made major contributions to the lives of others. Marya Salomee Sklodowska  was one who stands out. Born in Warsaw, Poland. She did not have an easy life as her mother died when she was only nine years of age in 1876.

Although she worked hard, she was not allowed to study at a university because she was a woman. Only men could go to universities at that time. Therefore she emigrated to France. There, she married Pierre Curie and became known as Marie Curie. She is the only woman to have won two Nobel Prizes. Her work on X rays led to major improvements in the treatment of cancer. She raised funds for to create the Warsaw Radium Institute, which was opened in 1929.

Her name is still honored today and in the UK there is a registered charity called the Marie Curie Research Institute. The funds have established more than 10 Marie Curie Hospices. Around the world,  her name is on public buildings such as Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris and also the Curie Institute and Curie Museum. Also, a university in Lublin is named after her. She achieved greatness by helping others. She used her time on Earth well. She is an inspiration to all of us who want to use our time to have a full and fulfilling life.
